What To Expect From Resurfacing

Resurfacing or refinishing is an excellent alternative to replacement of worn or color dated bathtubs, countertops, and showers. It can add years of useful life to your surfaces and offers huge savings of time and money when compared to replacement. It is a great value!

But resurfacing is not "bulletproof". Just as a porcelain bathtub or laminate countertop can be chipped, scratched, cut, and will wear out over time, a resurfaced tub or countertop can be chipped, scratched, and cut and will eventually wear out.

DuraGlaze ™, our bathtub resurfacing coating isn't quite as hard as the porcelain on a cast iron tub, but it is substantially harder than the finish used on fiberglass or acrylic tubs and showers. It will provide years of service, and do so at a substantial savings over replacement.

If a plumber is changing your faucet and hot & cold water valve handles in your resurfaced tub, he needs to take care not to drop a heavy tool such a pipe wrench onto the surface. Just as a brand new porcelain tub can be chipped, so can a resurfaced tub. Just to be safe, we recommend placing a blanket in the bottom of the tub to provide some protection against accidents with plumbing tools. The good news is that if an accident occurs, damaging your resurfaced tub, we can repair it so that you can't tell it ever happened!

A bathtub resurfaced with DuraGlaze ™ can last 12 to 15 years before it needs to be resurfaced again. The actual lifetime of your refinished tub will vary depend upon how it is cared for. Please see our Care and Cleaning & Warranty pages for more information.

StoneCoat ™ is used to resurface Formica countertops, cultured marble, and fiberglass bathtubs and shower surrounds. It is as hard, if not harder than the original surface! It is very heat and abrasion resistant; much more so even, than many of the plastic laminates that are available. But it can still be burned if a hot skillet is placed on the surface and it can be cut if the countertop is used as a cutting board.

Cultured marble countertops tend to develop quite a few problems over time. Lighter colors yellow badly and all colors of cultured marble tend to develop cracks around the drain. Most of the time this is due to thermal shock which occurs when very hot water flows over the area around the drain. Repeated expansion and contraction results in cracking. Refinishing with StoneCoat ™ will make your bathroom basin look like new and prevent these problems from recurring!
